New Patients

Hello and welcome to Irish Hills Acupuncture & Wellness. We want to make sure you’re ready for your first and subsequent appointments.

Your First Visit

First appointments can range from 30-90 minutes. A detailed health history will be taken along with a physical exam so that we can provide you with a unique treatment plan.

You can expect your acupuncturist will spend time getting to know you and your specific health concerns and may ask a wide range of questions from sleep habits to stress levels, from emotional state to symptoms, from exercise to eating habits so that a fuller picture of your health may be developed for your treatment plan. Your acupuncturist may also look at your mouth and take your pulse as diagnostic tools.

Your Treatment Plan

Once your acupuncturist has compiled this information, they will be able to create a treatment plan based on your specific needs. They will explain your underlying imbalances, your timeline of care, and the types of treatment you’ll receive.

How Treatment Works

To treat imbalances in the body systems, fine, sterile needles are inserted along the meridian pathways based on your unique issues and symptoms.

Acupuncture treatment may be coupled with other treatments such as cupping, Gwa Sha, moxibustion, or herbal remedies which can increase the benefits of your treatment.

Getting the Most Out of Your Treatment

To get the most out of each visit, please keep these things in mind:

  • Please show up on time
  • Don’t eat a large meal before your visit
  • Drink water to help flush any toxins from your system
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothes to make it easier to get to meridian lines for treatment
  • Be sure to discuss any questions or concerns with your acupuncturist
  • Refrain from overexertion, drugs, or alcohol for at least six hours after treatment
  • Follow your treatment plan between visits
  • Keep all of your appointments, as each visit builds upon the previous ones

Your Role in the Healing Process

The more you are involved in your treatment process the more quickly your body will be able to heal. You can actively take part by choosing a healthier lifestyle and completing any homework given to you by your acupuncturist.

You’ll learn the signs in your body and learn to take an active role in your health so that you can get the help that you need before it becomes an issue.

Even after symptoms have resolved, acupuncture can be helpful to maintaining your health and even in possibly preventing future issues.

Acupuncture is Not a Quick Fix

Taking control of and achieving your optimal health through acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is a process of healing the body’s systems and helping them to work at their optimal levels.

You may feel relief after one or a few visits. Or it may take weeks, months, or even longer to achieve optimal results. Your acupuncturist should be able to give you an idea of what this looks like for you specifically.

Patience and an open mind will help you in the process. Remember, you did not get to the health situation you are in over night and so treatment to correct the underlying issues will not be over night, either. If you continue to take steps in the direction of optimal health, you will be able to achieve your health goals.
